Got Termites? Why Spring Is The Perfect Time To Start Pest Control Measures

Blog

Now that spring is here, it's time to get busy with the pest control services. This is one of the busiest times for pests, especially for termites. In fact, this is the best time of year to take an active approach to termite control. That's because the temperatures are beginning to get warmer, and the weather is moist, which are two ingredients that termites need in order to thrive. If you haven't started your termite control procedures yet, now's the time to make arrangements with a pest control service. If you're not sure why spring is the best time to get the termites under control, read the list provided below.

They're Multiplying

During the winter, termites like to burrow deep into the soil and into your home. It's their way to keep warm and to prepare for mating season. Now that spring is here, termites are in their active reproduction stage, which means they're multiplying exponentially. If you don't take steps to stop the growth now, you could have an even bigger termite problem in a few weeks. Before you end up with a full-blown infestation, start the pesticide treatment right away.

They're Swarming

As new termites are reproduced, they prepare to leave the nest. This is the time when new termites may take flight in order to form their own colonies. During the spring, you'll be able to see termites swarming around your yard. Once they land, they'll begin building the colony and preparing their nests. Now that the termites are swarming, it's time to have your pest control service apply the pesticide treatment. That way, you can stop the new colonies before they can grow.

They're Foraging

If you have a termite problem, now's the perfect time to start the pest control procedures. When spring arrives, termites begin to actively forage for food and for their shelter needs. That makes pest control methods even more effective. In addition to treating the colonies, pesticides can also be applied to the perimeter of your home. The pesticide-treated softwood that's carried back to the colony will kill termites where they live.

They're Visible

Finally, during the winter, it's nearly impossible to get a handle on a termite infestation. That's because they're all in hiding. However, during the spring, termite activity becomes more visible. In fact, you might be able to see them crawling on the walls and inside your home. That makes tracking their activity that much easier, which is why pest control treatment is so much more effective during the spring.

Getting rid of mosquitos

In the warm weather, it can be hard to keep control of the mosquitos in our yard. We have a really beautiful water feature and fishpond, but the water does not tend to move quickly enough to keep the mosquitos out. Every year we get the pest control guy to help us out by spraying the yard so that there is no spot for the mosquitos to build up. This means that we can get outside and enjoy the weather in our own yard. This blog is all about pest control for your yard, especially if you have water features.
